El Mahras is a small, predominantly Muslim village with only about 5% Evangelical Christians. A very poor and old village, more than 75% of the residents live below the poverty level with an average income of only $2USD per day, when work is available. The primary occupation is farming wheat, however, there are many days when work is not available due to the non-fertile soil conditions. This village does have access to clean water through Water 2 Egypt and many of the children who attend the local church are also active in AWANA.
